Alumina Lawn Bowls Club Welcoming New Players

LAWN BOWLS: With brand new greens at the Alumina Lawn Bowls Club, the club's stalwarts are hoping for a bumper crowd on Wednesday.

That's because the club will have its Open Bowls Day and people are welcome to give the sport a try.

"It's our first social day and we will take names by 12.30pm and the competition will start at 1pm," president John Richards said.

"The new green looks great and it is the best it has looked for years."

Club secretary Ken Stovell said with six days notice there was no excuse for those who were still enjoying their holidays, to give lawn bowls a go.

"There should be a good crowd, but we always welcome new members," Stovell said.

"Age is no barrier."

The proper competition, which will be a pairs format, will start on Saturday, January 28 from about 9am through until early afternoon.

That will prelude more events the club will host in what will be a big year.

"In March we will have the club championships and nominations will open as from Wednesday," Richards said. …
