Bowen Basin Still Waiting; $30Million Package Four Months Away

AFTER a couple of days with "bureaucrats and politicians" Graeme Kanofski just wants to start creating jobs in the Bowen Basin.

As the new chair of the $30m Bowen Basin Jobs Package, which was announced during the last Federal election, it will be his job to bring it all together. That is once he has been given the framework of how the package will work.

The speed of delivery of the package has drawn criticism from Labor Senator Anthony Chisholm, who has written to the government asking when it would be rolled out.

"The LNP still have no guidelines, no plan and no idea about how to deliver local jobs for the Bowen Basin," he said. "I doubt there will be any money out the door this financial year."

And he is most likely right, with the government telling Mr Kanofski his committee must have its "local investment plan" completed by June 30.

Once that's completed, possible applicants will know whether to apply and once applications are received they will be sent to Canberra to be given the tick or not. …
