Woman Dies in Her Own Unit; Police Wait on the Autopsy

THE circumstances around the "sudden death" of a woman at a South Mackay unit on Monday are still not known, according to police.

The woman, whose age police did not reveal, was found dead Monday morning after police were called to her Sophia St unit just before 7am.

Yesterday there was very little information available about what had happened, although a neighbour, who didn't want to be named, said he had heard fighting on Sunday and believed police had been called.

"Police interviewed them and left," the neighbour said.

"They were laughing when police left, it sounded like they (the people inside the unit) were joking."

However, he said later in the night he was kept awake.

"I could hear crashing like stuff was being thrown," he said.

He said he thought it was out of character for noise like that during the night and in the day.

Speaking at a press conference at 2pm Monday, Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch acting Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Arnold said detectives were still conducting their inquiries. …
