Sarina Brought to a Halt; Peaceful End to 'Police Incident'

THE township of Sarina was put on hold on Sunday morning as a "police incident" caused an emergency situation.

Police attended the Sandpiper Motel in Sarina about 8am to speak with a man.

Shortly after roads were blocked off as police dealt with the "disturbance" at one of the motel's units.

A written statement from police issued at 12.05pm Sunday confirmed an 'Emergency Situation' had been declared earlier in the day, at 8.30am, and police had established an exclusion zone bounded by Sarina Beach Rd; Crichton St and Ferries Tce.

Police negotiators were brought onto the scene to speak with the man.

After about four hours, the situation ended peacefully and without incident at just past 12.30.

A police spokesperson said a 45-year-old man had surrendered himself to police and no one had been injured as a result of the morning's events.
