No Costa, No Problem for Leaders Chelsea

FOOTBALL: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists Diego Costa was injured and not dropped for the Blues' 3-0 win at English Premier League champion Leicester.

It was suggested this week the Spaniard was left out of the team against the Foxes because of a lack of fitness, but after the win - which took Chelsea seven points clear at the top - Conte said Costa's absence was due to a back problem.

"Diego stopped his training on Tuesday because he felt a pain in his back and from that moment he didn't train during the week and for this reason he wasn't available and this is the truth," he told BT Sport.

Costa's absence mattered little for Chelsea, which responded in style after being put under pressure earlier in the day by 4-0 wins for both Tottenham, which moved to second, and Arsenal, which is now third.

Wing back Marcos Alonso scored the Blues' first two goals with fellow Spaniard Pedro adding a third.

Spurs moved to within four points of the leaders thanks to a sparkling home display in the early kick-off against West Brom, with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick. …
