Fuller Secures Tenterfield Win; Golfing Family among the Best on Course

JUNIOR GOLF: Grafton Golf Club junior Nick Fuller battled his way through arduous conditions at Tenterfield to clinch the nett result of the 54 Hole Junior Classic.

The event, which is part of the Jack Newton Junior Golf club tour, was played in extremely hot conditions last week but despite the temperature the greens and surrounds were in perfect condition.

Fuller, helped by an accurate tee shot, managed to shoot rounds of 74, 77 and 83 playing off a handicap of eight.

Overall gross winner for the tournament was state player Jay McKenzie from Ballina Golf Club who shot a remarkable 11-under par for the 54 holes.

McKenzie shot a 7-under 64 on the first 18, one adrift of the 15-year-old course record. It was a good warm up round for McKenzie as he made the journey south of the border to Yarra Yarra to contest the Australian Amateur Championships which begun yesterday.

Nick was not the only Fuller child to perform well at Tenterfield with sister, and reigning Grafton Ladies champion, Courtney Fuller finishing runner-up in the female gross 54 hole event. …
