SURF LIFESAVING: "The girl is a workhorse."

And the results have shown for 15-year-old Tayla Clifford, who is on track to complete a remarkable turnaround in form at the Australian Youth Surf Lifesaving Championships at North Kirra next week.

The Alexandra Headland rising star, who joined the club late last year, wowed coaches, teammates and officials alike when she dominated at the state titles earlier this month.

Tayla claimed gold in under-15 female beach sprint, beach flags, beach relay, Cameron relay and the all-age relay as team captain.

Alex beach coach Vinnie Jason said no other competitor at the youth championships won their beach sprint and beach flag events.

A year ago, Clifford didn't feature in any finals at the states or the Aussies, but Jason believes she's on track to change that this year.

"The level of improvement has gone through the roof," he said.

"She's got a really good support crew around her too. …
