Keeper Talent Still Strong; Praise for Wide Bay after Camp

FOOTBALL: A goalkeeping program believes Bundaberg is on track to produce another Socceroos goalkeeper like current player Mitch Langerak.

Goalkeeping Academy Australia held a combined Keeper Camp, headed by Young Socceroos and Olyroos goalkeeper coach John Gorza, at The Waves Grounds.

The former coach of Langerak provided valuable theory and practical lessons to improve the 24 goalkeepers that were there as part of the camp on February 26.

And Goalkeeping Academy Australia Wide Bay coaching director Cale Driver was impressed with what he saw.

"It was a fantastic and great day," he said.

"The standard of goalkeeping is pretty high in Wide Bay."

But Driver said the aim was to always keep improving.

While Wide Bay keepers were good at making saves and positioning themselves for shots, the camp focused on improving their skills that can help in open play.

"We want our keepers to have good ball skills with their feet to help with possession of the ball from the back," Driver said. …
