BROKEN bottles, car break-ins, bullying and battered wildlife is leaving the future of popular Coast swimming spot Gardners Falls in limbo.

Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay will today push for a review into public safety issues at the beloved hinterland waterhole, after a string of incidents and what she described as a "clear and loud plea" from the community to address the problem.

Maleny Chamber of Commerce president Spencer Shaw welcomed the move to combat anti-social and criminal behaviour at the waterfalls, which he said had become seen as a dangerous place to park.

"It's a pretty substantial issue," Mr Shaw said.

He said break-ins were becoming more frequent and word-of-mouth was spreading through the community that the location was not worth the trouble to visit.

"It's a beautiful place but it's just not worth the risk," Mr Shaw said.

Mr Shaw was hopeful solutions could be found, as the falls were an iconic destination and could become a tourist attraction similar to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve if it was cleaned up. …
