TRIATHLETES ON BOARD; Numbers Exceed Expectation for Upcoming Olympic Tri

Where: Nielson Park and Bargara

When: Sunday from 6.45am

Distance:

Olympic - 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run

Come and Try - 400m swim, 14km bike, 4km run

Turtles - 100m swim, 2km bike and 500m run

TRIATHLON: The Bargara Triathlon Club is confident this year's Olympic triathlon could be the start of a yearly event for the region.

As the club puts the finishing touches on the first one to be held this Sunday, they are already looking at future tri events.

During the event, competitors will compete in either an Olympic triathlon, a come-and-try triathlon or for the junior Turtles.

Currently around 250 have committed with entries still open for the event.

"We always spoke about getting that many people for the event," Bargara Triathlon Club president Dwayne McKay said.

"We're near that mark now and whatever we get is a bonus."

And the interest has exceeded expectations. …
