BUDDING entrepreneurs have fronted their peers to pitch ideas hoped to break them into their chosen industries.

Not all of them were comfortable speaking before a crowd but their enthusiasm was clear to see.

The group of 14 teams met their business mentors on Saturday to start carving out their concepts for the third annual Generation Innovation Challenge.

Generation Innovation chairman Ted O'Brien said the challenge was designed to help groups of 15 to 25 year olds convert their passion or interest into a commercial entity.

A service offering controlled destruction of old household items as stress relief as well as a user-friendly app to advise people about their nearest public transport options were among the ideas.

Each team was joined by a mentor, established members of the business community who offer ongoing input and support during the challenge.

They also met with marketing specialists to help with that aspect of growing a business. …
