MANY suspected it would never happen, but after 18 months of pain, anguish and hard work Toowoomba apprentice Ruby Ride has found her way back to the winner's stall.

Ride's breakthrough moment arrived at Clifford Park on Saturday night when she teamed with her boss and loyal supporter Jim Hanna to win the Queensland Electrical Solutions Class 4 Handicap (1310m).

Stormy Grey ($11) finished solidly to down Mishani Phoenix ($6) by a short head, with Haradify ($16) a neck back third.

Ride's victory was her first since scoring on Buon Auspicio at Doomben in July 2015 while climbing rapidly up the Queensland apprentice riding ranks.

Two weeks later Ride sustained horrific pelvic injuring in a life-threatening pre-race spill at Ipswich.

The freak incident was expected to mark the end of her riding days, but in February this year Ride beat the medical odds to return to the saddle.

After 11 rides and two minor placings Ride's long-awaited success could not have been more fitting. …
