TH I S Newcas-tle United side is "really special" and has delivered the club back to where it "belongs", believes Aleksandar Mitrovic - who admits he is "happy" he stayed following relegation.

Rafa Benitez's men are guaranteed promotion now following Monday night's 4-1 victory over Preston North End at St James' Park.

With two games remaining, United trail leagueleaders Brighton and Hove Albion by four points and still maintain an outside hope of clinching the Championship title as well.

"This means that we have brought back the Premier League, where this club always belongs, so this is an amazing thing," Mitrovic explained.

"It's been a really long season which has a lot of ups and downs, but we made it in the end, so we are very happy.

"I'm very happy that I stayed this season and I have really enjoyed it.

"I haven't played a lot, I haven't scored a lot of goals, but I have really, really enjoyed it, even on the bench."

Mitrovic admits this has been an extremely difficult season but that the outcome has made it worth it, and stresses that Benitez has built a "special team" at the club.

"Trust me, this team is really special, this team is a real team - - that's the reason why we have made it," the 22-year-old added.

"I didn't believe it when they told me that this league is so hard, but for me, this league physically is even harder than the Premier League, so it's a really big achievement for this team, for these guys.

"We have to finish these two games and we still have a chance to win the league, so we will try.

"But the most important thing is that next year, we will play Premier League football here, and that's unbelievable."

Since he joined Newcastle from Anderlecht for PS13million during the summer of 2015, Mitrovic has become a keen fans' favourite.

And he has dedicated promotion to the Magpies supporters who have stuck by the club through relegation and beyond. …
