Sideline a Foreign Place for New Slade Point Coach

RUGBY UNION: After almost two decades playing for Slade Point, Shaun Tucker has hung up his boots and picked up the clipboard.

Tucker is a life member at Slade Point and made his coaching debut at the weekend in their game against Brothers at Leprechaun Park.

It was harder than he thought being on the sideline.

"Being a coach is a lot different to being a player," Tucker said.

"When you're a player you're in control of what happens out on the field, you know what needs to happen and you do it."

Coaching from the box, Tucker felt a little less in control.

"It's a bit hard on the sideline knowing what needs to happen and not being able to make a difference," he said.

However he hopes the work the team are doing at training will help.

He may have started his coaching career with a loss to Brothers but Tucker and the team remain positive. …
