Revamped Cantina Back in Business

CUSTOMER service is king when it comes to succeeding in a tough economy, says the franchisee of a newly reopened Mackay Mexican restaurant.

That's one reason Mel Fowler -- who will oversee the rejuvenated Hombre Mexican Cantina -- plans to employ about 14 more workers in coming weeks, up from a previous staff of six.

Ms Fowler, who also owns three Stellarosa cafes in Mackay, has been part of a comprehensive re-brand and menu shake-up at the Parkside Plaza store.

She has owned Hombre in her hometown since it opened at the shopping centre almost two years ago.

Now, Hombre has been acquired by Franchise Retail Brands (FRB) and its newly re-branded menu and store was unveiled on Friday, coinciding with the Mexican day of celebration, Cinco de Mayo.

While it will operate alongside several other Mexican eateries in Mackay, including Cactus Jacks and Zambreros, Ms Fowler said Hombre would offer a wholly different experience. …
