Players Donates Mobile Unit to St. Vincent's HealthCare

The St. Vincent's HealthCare mobile outreach ministry has used a total of eight large units to bring free care to rural and urban communities in Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Nassau and Putnam since 1991.

The newest member of the fleet will now offer, as St. Vincent's CEO Tom VanOsdol put it, "the gift of sight and better sight" - thanks to The Players Championship.

St. Vincent's joined with Players officials at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse Wednesday to unveil a new 45-foot long, 4,400-pound vehicle that will, for the first time, have vision services available to patients in partnership with Vision Is Priceless.

The Players donated the cost of the van, which was estimated at $500,000. In addition to the van, St. Vincent's HealthCare Foundation received a $50,000 check from Optum, one of the presenting sponsors of The Players.

An ophthalmologist will be part of the team as the unit travels five days a week to schools, churches and community centers to continue the Outreach Ministry's "doctors on wheels" services. …
