NEWCASTLE Roller Girls hosted the EuroClash 2017 roller derby tournament - bringing teams and hundreds of fans from all over the UK and Europe to the city.

Eleven teams from six countries took part in 12 games in a weekend of live international roller derby at the Walker Activity Dome.

They were Auld Reekie Rollergirls (Edinburgh). Bear City Roller Derby (Berlin), Central City Rollergirls (Birmingham), Dublin Roller Derby, Leeds Roller Derby, Middlesbrough Roller Derby, Newcastle Roller Girls, Paris Rollergirls (France), Tiger Bay Brawlers (Cardiff), Team Scotland and Team Ireland.

Games were sanctioned by the sport's international governing body the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and EuroClash 2017 was the first tournament in the UK to be part of the WFTDA officiallyrecognised programme.

There were several very close games over the weekend as well as surprise results.

The closest clashes of the tournament included Central City 167 Tiger Bay Brawlers 161, while e Bear City took the win in the very last jam against Edinburgh's Auld Reekie Roller Girls - the final score 177-176 in the German side's favour.

Middlesbrough came back fighting on the second day to beat Berlin 238-89 after a surprise 194-99 defeat by Edinburgh in their first game of the tournament. …
