DECEMBER 30, 1995. Alan Shearer walked out at Ewood Park for his 124th Premier League game ... 90 minutes later he had netted his 100th Premier League goal.

That record is still to be broken, as is the tally of 260 top-flight goals in 441 games over a career spanning 16 years. In that time he also set the record for the most hat-tricks - 11.

Newcastle United fans need no telling just what a goalscorer their Tyneside-born striker was and you would find few who name anyone else above Shearer.

That is, maybe, until now. At 23, Tottenham's Harry Kane is gunning for every record set by Strong, speedy, excellent in the air and with a touch for goal that can't be taught ... you could well be describing Shearer in his prime.

Kane hit 29 Premier League goals this season to retain the Golden Boot - something only four others have done, including Shearer in 1995, 1996 and 1997.

The Spurs frontman will be aiming to equal that record next season. …
