Downing Lifts Lid on Boro 'Dressing Room Rifts'

ANGRY Stewart Downing has lifted the lid on the damaging dressing room rifts that hampered Boro's Premier League survival scrap.

The frustrated flanker says the pressing problems with 'passengers' must be resolved over the summer if Boro are to bounce back from relegation at the first time of asking.

Downing believes Boro must rid themselves of unsettled players who want out of the Riverside if the team are to be fully focussed on a Championship promotion push.

And he added that behind the scenes problems had left Steve Agnew firefighting after he stepped in for departed Aitor Karanka.

"I'm sure there will be changes in the dressing room next season," said Downing. "There has to be if we are to get promoted. We can't carry passengers.

"The manager has done ever so well with the stuff he's had to deal with. The fans don't see that, but there's been a lot and issues that needed addressing.

"This wasn't his team and probably not the way he wanted to play. …
