Key Speaker Games CEO; U3A Guests Hear Latest on GC2018

THE 100-plus delegates at the U3A Network Queensland State Conference at Tweed Heads in May learnt a lot about the upcoming "biggest Commonwealth Games ever" from their keynote speaker.

Chief executive officer of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Mark Peters was asked to address the conference theme - Live, Laugh, Learn Without Boundaries.

"It's going to be a fun time, that's why it's called the 'friendly' Games," Mr Peters said.

"It's likely that (Prince) Charles and Camilla will be here and some of the young royals."

Mr Peters was among the team that won the Games (GC2018) for the Gold Coast in November 2011.

More than 1000 employees will be on the Games payroll by the April 4, 2018, opening ceremony.

The Games village will house 6600 athletes and officials during the 11-day event.

Mr Peters said one of the aims of GC2018 was to diversify the Gold Coast economy.

He said this week that preparations for GC2018 were well on track. …
