Cutters Break Drought in Thrilling Match

RUGBY LEAGUE: As the minutes ticked down in the QCCS Mackay Cutters game Saturday night, the crowd had accepted the fact it was going to be a draw.

The Cutters lead at the break but it didn't take long for Wynnum Manly Seagulls to catch up to them in the second half.

With about 10 minutes left of the match, scores were locked at 14-all.

Both teams went for the winning field goal and both teams missed.

Then, with 30 seconds to go, Cutters found themselves with the ball for the final set.

The crowd held a collective breath as the ball went out to one of the Cutters allocated North Queensland Cowboys players, Braden Uele.

He slipped through a gap to slam the ball down with a mere two seconds to go in the game.

Nicho Hynes converted, edging the winning margin out to 20-14.

"I thought the boys responded well, they went down that short side and pushed up in the middle," Cutters' coach Steve Sheppard said. …
