Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey announced on social media that he underwent surgery Thursday to repair a core muscle injury that occurred during organized team activities.

Ramsey could be sidelined for up to six weeks, but is likely to be ready to participate in training camp in late July. He was held out from participating in drills during the Jaguars' three-day mandatory mini-camp that concluded Thursday.

"To all my supporters and fans, I want you to know that I chose to undergo surgery to treat a minor injury that was very successful," Ramsey said in a statement released by the team. "I want to and will be the best version of myself that I can be for the upcoming 2017 season. I will attack this rehab, refine my body and work as hard as I ever have to become the best defensive back in this league, and to make everyone, including my family, teammates and city, proud of who I am. I can't wait to be back on the field with the team and show the world how we're rocking this year."

This is the second consecutive year Ramsey must recover from injury prior to training camp. He underwent surgery on his right knee in May 2016 after being injured during an on-field workout, but did not miss a game during the regular season.

Safeties Barry Church (back), Tashaun Gipson and cornerback Aaron Colvin (foot) were unable to participate in the team's offseason program because of undisclosed injuries. On Thursday, Coach Doug Marrone declined to say if he is confident all three players will return by the July 26 reporting date.

Cornerback A.J. Bouye, who signed a five-year, $67.5 million free agent contract with the Jaguars in March, missed the first four OTA sessions because of undisclosed injury before returning to complete the offseason program. …
