PLEASE PM We Need PM Here; Council's SOS for Turnbull to Visit City

THE Prime Minister is needed in Gladstone "urgently" for an energy crisis summit.

Council is making a desperate bid to have Malcolm Turnbull visit the city to address a range of vital energy issues facing the region.

With plans to invite the PM to Gladstone, Mayor Matt Burnett will pen a letter to Canberra outlining a proposed summit to tackle the energy issues.

At yesterday's council meeting, councillors agreed Gladstone, as a major supplier of electricity and gas, needed to host a summit.

Councillor Cindi Bush said council needed to invite the PM along with international experts who have dealt with energy issues in other countries, for Gladstone to use its strategies to resolve the energy crisis.

"It's a matter of urgency," Cr Bush said. "Other countries are making coal sexy, more palatable as an energy source ... we're in a critical status now."

Deputy Mayor Chris Trevor said Gladstone's industrial future looked bleak in the next 10 years and depended heavily on a summit. …
