TOUCH: Seven Gladstone sides will be amongst a record group 220 teams competing at the Queensland Touch Junior State Cup in Hervey Bay next week.

The July 6-8 carnival will feature more than 3500 players who will play 450 games across 21 fields over three days at the Hervey Bay Sports Complex.

The event is the biggest one yet in the tournament's 22-year history.

Queensland Touch Football chief executive officer Jamie O'Connor said the record amount of team nominations was evidence of the growth in junior participation across the state.

"Junior State Cup is the biggest event on the Queensland Touch Football calendar, and we are delighted that it continues to grow each year," he said.

"We place a strong emphasis on enjoyment, teamwork and development at this event, which is the foundation of our junior participation strategy."

The carnival caters for under-10 boys and girls and goes up in two-year increments until U18s.

Gladstone Touch Association will take teams in every age group except for U18s, with the U16 girls and U14 boys, who will be coached by former Melbourne Storm NRL player Tony Martin, expected to perform strongly. …
