It Just Feels Different from a Normal Dukes like a 'Softball'

WE make cricket history this week. For the first time, an entire round of County Championship matches will be played under lights, using a pink ball.

I spent most of last week working out how I am going to bowl with it, ahead of our game against Yorkshire at Headingley starting today. When I bowl with a red Dukes ball, I know how to release it so it drifts into the batsman, or away from him, or so it simply goes straight.

The pink ball just feels different from a normal Dukes and I am still getting used to it.

The seam feels far more pronounced and the stitching appears looser than on the red ball. When you strike it with the bat, it feels more like one of the 'softballs' that quick bowlers use to practise short deliveries, and it doesn't seem to swing as a normal Dukes would. …
