Black Beauty Gets a Run; Qld Horse to Test New Track South of Border

CLASS 2 Hcp: A QUEENSLAND thoroughbred at heart, Joueur is no stranger to winning.

So it is appropriate that today, Westlawn Black and Gold Race Day, will be the four-year-old gelding's first test south of the border, under new trainer Scott Henley.

He came to the Grafton stable out of the Chris Anderson yard in Brisbane about three months ago and has been a noted winner at Caloundra and Doomben.

But how he goes in the Westlawn Class 2 Handicap today will depend on how well he has transitioned to the much smaller Henley yard.

First indications are good, Joueur finishing third in a barrier trial last Wednesday.

"He's had a good preparation up to date and trialled nice at Ballina the other day -- he worked up the line with plenty in the tank," Henley said.

So he doesn't think a wide draw of 13 out of 14 for this race will affect the stayer's form too much.

"He's not a pace runner but he'll go forward from a wide gate. …
