Racer's Second Broken Collarbone in 12 Months; Injury Puts Pressure on Rest of Diamonds Squad

UNLUCKY Newcastle Diamonds racer Lewis Rose will be sidelined for a few weeks with a broken collarbone following last Friday's crash at Edinburgh.

The Diamonds have no other option but to share out his scheduled races among eligible teammates in tonight's home SGB Championship match against Workington Comets at Byker (7.30).

The man immediately above Rose in the current averages, skipper Ludvig Lindgren, and three below him, Ashley Morris, Ben Hopwood and Alfie Bowtell, will have to be at their best to collectively match Rose's eight-point return against the same opposition three weeks ago in the Knockout Cup replay at Byker.

Rose came down heavily on the rain-soaked Edinburgh track and was clipped by teammate Ben Hopwood, who was following closely behind.

Rose was taken to hospital, where it was confirmed he had not only broken the collarbone, but had also bent the plate which was inserted when he suffered the same injury almost a year ago against Edinburgh at Byker. …
