Challenges at This Club Realistic, Says Grayson

SIMON Grayson relishes the challenge of turning Sunderland's fortunes around - and is convinced he is the man to get the club back on track.

New boss Grayson has walked into a tough set of circumstances on Wearside, with the club newly relegated, short of cash, deep in debt and with an owner who is looking to sell up.

Nevertheless, Sunderland will be one of the clubs expected to be in the promotion hunt this seaso.

Grayson insists he embraces that challenge and believes it is a realistic aim.

He said: "I like a job with a realistic challenge - sometimes you go into a club where the aims are miles ahead of their realistic capabilities.

"It is not like that here. There are challenges but they are ones which we should be able to embrace.

"You want to be able to look back in a year, two years or three years and say I took over a club which was struggling at the time and make it successful again.

"That would give me a huge amount of satisfaction, as has been the case with the previous four clubs I have worked for.

"Ultimately, if there is no expectation then there is something wrong with the club you are at. …
