THE Sunshine Coast Sports Federation column today is aimed at councils and local sponsors, for when they make decisions to support athletes and teams in their sporting journeys.

It is clear the Sunshine Coast is a successful base for athletes who compete in Olympic Games sports.

Presently, the region has numerous people competing on the world stage or who are about to compete on the world stage.

Noosa's Brittany Elmslie won a silver medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the world titles in Budapest and the McKeown sisters and Leah Neale are also in the team.

Kayaking duo Alyce Burnett and Alyssa Bull are well prepared for their world challenge while cycling whiz Kristina Clonan has already stepped up to the big time after just moving into the senior ranks.

At least six locals are competing in this year's age group water polo world championships and Ryan Tyack still leads his Buderim archery club to outstanding results at national and international events. …
