THIS year's annual "Wynnsday'' release of wines on August 2 marks the 60th release of Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon, which remains one of Australia's most collected wines.

At the helm for the last 25 years is senior winemaker Sue Hodder, who says the "2015 Black Label Cabernet embodies the heritage, the journey and, of course, the vintage."

There's obviously a sense of anticipation with such a milestone and the vintage hasn't disappointed: "the quality of the 2015 vintage meets our high expectations."

Sue is careful with her words, and when she says "our'' she means the team alongside her - winemaker Sarah Pidgeon for 18 years and Allen Jenkins as viticulturalist for even longer.

With Sarah, she shared the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology's Winemaker of the Year Award in 2016 and with Allen, the Gourmet Traveller Wine Winemaker of the Year in 2010.

While the label is steeped in heritage, Sue believes that "the ability to create supple, fine, early drinking wines that still age well" means it stays relevant in today's market. …
