Drinks Festivals Making a Splash for Fourth Year

APAIR of the region's popular beer and cider festivals are making a summer return with a bonus this year for the growing army of gin lovers.

For the fourth year running, the Malhotra Beer and Cider Festivals are taking place at a pair of popular gastropubs - The Runhead in Ryton and The Sandpiper in Cullercoats.

They are promising a larger than ever line-up of the region's finest craft beers, ales and ciders and also, for the first time, a gin bar at each venue showcasing a variety of locally produced gins.

The festivals, which are free to attend, have been organised by Newcastle-based leisure company Malhotra Group plc.

They will take place from August 10 to 13 at The Runhead and from August 25 to 28 at The Sandpiper.

The sponsors this year are the Cullercoats Brewery and the Blaydon-based Firebrick Brewery, with the range of cask ales on offer including Toon Broon and Wey Aye PA from Firebrick and Shipping Forecast and Shuggy Boat Blonde from Cullercoats.

There will also be a variety of keg beers, including Firebrick Giuseppe gluten free lager, a dedicated Anarchy Brew Co craft beer bar and the returning Krombacher Pils. …
