know, I know we've waited years for a summer that's more of a heat wave and less of a damp squib and I begin talking about autumn trends in August.

IAutumn has so much to offer that it's quite possibly my favourite season of them all. When the evenings close in and the weather cools, inside feels that little bit cosier. It's a time of interior drama, daring colours and a touch of romance - honestly, what's not to love? Every August home magazines usher in the new season with issues released in time for September. So, as a primer to all things on-trend, here's a preview of some of the hottest interior styles heading our way as the temperature drops.

GO GREEN Deep, dark olive greens are going to be seen throughout the home over autumn and winter, and will be especially effective in the kitchen. Team with natural wood effects and the odd smattering of fresh white to lift the palette and you have a welcoming almost-winter retreat.

Choose authentic brass fixtures BRASS IS BACK I loved the bright, bold and romantic touch that rose gold and copper brought to interiors but sadly their time is at an end. The statement metal that looked so on-trend because they were so plainly fake will now start to look tired in the face of the new metal in town - classy, aged brass.

BEDROOM INSPIRATION Over the last few years, the Scandi trend has helped the interior world hone in on comfort, little luxuries and cosy spaces. Autumn 2017 will provide more of the same, but will take on the challenge of digital overwhelm - yup, smartphone addiction is seriously harmful for rest and relaxation.

Think sleeping spaces surrounding by canopies, piles of pillows and sheer net curtains, and imagine oversized armchairs with a foot rest in the quietest of corners.

Forget crisp, cool and plain white sheets. Think original statement spreads, injections of colour and piling on the textures. As for the key piece here this season? Well that would be a bespoke, upholstered headboard.
