LIGHTWATER Valley's Eagle's Claw ride is open to the public again.

The ride shut late last month after the death of a fair-goer on a similar ride in the US.

Tyler Jarrell, 18, was killed at the Ohio state fair on July 26 while riding the Fireball, also known as the Afterburner. The top attraction at Lightwater Valley was one of five similar rides that were ordered to close by the Health and Safety Executive.

They were closed as a precaution after Mr Jarrell's seat snapped off and was flung in the air. Seven people were injured.

A spokesman for Lightwater Valley said: "As a precaution we proactively took the decision to temporarily stop operating the ride until it had undergone a comprehensive inspection and re-testing procedure. "Although there are fundamental differences between our permanent ride and the travelling version, which was involved in the tragic accident in the US, our ride engineers have fully implemented all the manufacturer's new recommendations and carried out all updated test procedures for the ride. …
