IT IS a place many Teessiders will have fond memories of. Whether it be a wedding, a Christmas party, or even a Sunday carvery, Norman Baum's Regency Suite in North Ormesby has fed and entertained generations of people.

And while it has been defiant despite the enormous changes that have gone on around it, the popular establishment has recently undergone a four-month refurb so it can continue to stand the test of time.

Located on Kings Road, just off the market place, Norman Baum's Regency Suite is situated in one of the town's historical buildings, dating from 1871.

It is named after its former owner, the late Norman Baum.

Mr Baum, who was born in Middlesbrough, bought his first property in North Ormesby in 1949, a little shop in Smeaton Street selling paraffin.

He bought his first property on Kings Road in 1952, opening a cafe downstairs, and renovating the top floor into a restaurant.

He then went on to buy either side and carried on renovations until the Regency Suite occupied five properties. …
