We've Now Got a Fitting Venue for the Sport

I REMEMBER reading obituaries suggesting that our sport was dead and the public would turn its back on us.

But London with more than 700,000 tickets sold for these World Championships and with enormous public support from day one has helped this sport enormously.

I'm at the halfway point of my four-year term as IAAF president and everyone is well versed in the difficulties we've faced but, from the start of the year, we've begun to find our footing and confidence is returning to the sport.

Decisions that have been profound and quite speedy have been made, and that change has made some people quite nervous, I must confess myself included.

These were issues we knew weren't going to go away and we had to act to stop the sport from disappearing. If not, it would have been catastrophic.

London feels like affirmation for what we've done in tackling things head on, and London 2017 has played its part in that.

If I was pressed on a highlight, I'd have to say the crowds for every session morning and evening. …
