Police Praised in Drugs Case; Judge Commends Officers Who Put Men Behind Bars

COPS who scored a PS2m drugs bust and put four gang members behind bars have been commended by a judge.

Judge Peter Armstrong at Teesside Crown Court jailed four men last month for conspiracy to supply heroin in a trafficking operation between Liverpool and Darlington.

Undercover officers from County Durham shadowed members of the gang as they regularly picked up packages of the Class A drug from a Liverpool mob.

They built up records of the Darlington men's movements using vehicle recognition cameras and mobile phone tracings.

The four men originally fought a trial for conspiracy to supply, but they changed their pleas to guilty and they were jailed at Teesside Crown Court on July 21.

Scott Wells, 36, of Hargreaves Terrace, Darlington, who met with the supplier in Liverpool and who organised the traffic, was jailed for seven years.

His deputy Daniel Giroux, 38, of Barden Moor Road, Darlington, was jailed for six years.

Christian Oliver, 45, of Stocksmeer Road, Darlington, and Colin Hughes, 36, of Chelmsford Street, Darlington, were both jailed for three years. …
