HARRY Redknapp has confirmed that Boro have agreed a deal to sign Ryan Shotton - but has reiterated that the move won't go through until he manages to sign some defensive reinforcements.

While all parties agreed the terms of the switch last week, Redknapp put the deal on hold until he manages to add to his squad at St Andrew's and sign a replacement for the outgoing centre-half.

But Redknapp, who has made his transfer frustrations known this summer, now also has a growing injury list to take into account, with defender Michael Morrison having been forced off after just 26 minutes of Tuesday night's 0-0 home draw with Bolton after suffering a broken nose.

Shotton, featured for Birmingham for the first time this season, after coming off the bench to replace Morrison. However Redknapp fully expects the 28-year-old to leave the club to join Boro.

That deal won't go through, though, until Redknapp manages to get a signing or two over the line. He wants to sign Aden Flint from Bristol City, who was again left out of Lee Johnson's squad for Tuesday's game at Brentford, but Birmingham have so far been unable to tempt the Robins into doing business.

Although Shotton is one of Redknapp's few defensive options as things stand, the Boro target may also be missing as the Blues head for Burton Albion tomorrow night. …
