One to Beat at Coolum; Ferris Goes into Final Round as Champ and Proud Dad

MOTOCROSS: It's the flying starts which makes Dean Ferris so hard to beat according to rival rider Kirk Gibbs, who is keen to finish the season with a flourish at Coolum this weekend.

Ferris, 27, has the MX Nationals title already in his grasp leading into the final round of the season after a strong campaign which has seen him win eight of nine events.

Second-placed Gibbs claimed victory at the only other stop on the circuit.

"He's a really good starter and when you're at the front it makes it a lot easier," the Gold Coaster said.

"Then his first three to four laps is really intense.

"He's been over in Europe and raced the world's best and knows what it takes to race at that level and I believe he's come back and brought that into perspective here and it's really hard to compete with that.

"He rides at a very high level and he can maintain it and ride it a good pace, strongly and safely. He doesn't make many mistakes. …
