MOTOR SPORT: Jamie Whincup continued his assault on the V8 record books yesterday when the Red Bull Holden Racing Team superstar flogged the field to become the most victorious driver in Supercars history.

On a history-making day of sprint racing at Sydney Motorsport Park, Whincup surpassed Holden legend Craig Lowndes as the sport's most successful driver when he floored his way home for a record-breaking 106th race win.

A humble Whincup talked down his achievement after passing stablemate Lowndes to become the greatest.

"The only problem is Lowndsey will out-drive me," Whincup said.

"He will be driving for another 10 years. I am not getting too excited with the numbers but it is certainly a good feeling to get the win today."

The records could continue to tumble with the unprecedented race win keeping Whincup in contention for an unprecedented seventh championship and cement his place as an undisputed V8 great.

After his nine-second win over Fabian Coulthard - after driving a wounded Commodore to a fighting third on Saturday - Whincup is just 12 points behind Scott McLaughlin in the title chase. …
