Some Grass Roots Learning; Lakes Creek Students Get Their Green Thumbs On

HOW does your garden grow?

For Lakes Creek State School students it looks very promising.

Yesterday, students and staff welcomed the latest addition to their school grounds, a community garden.

Lakes Creek State School principal Lachlan Moore said he was excited to see the project take off.

"We want to use the produce that we're generating from this garden in a future cooking program for the students," Mr Moore said.

"It's a real community celebration today of all the work we have achieved so far."

Mr Moore said it was a great opportunity for the children to learn how to garden and grow produce.

"It's a really good activity that they're doing at first lunch and during class as well," Mr Moore said.

The gardening will also help to engage students with the curriculum at the school.

"We're integrating it with our curriculum, we can do a lot of science work down here, even mathematics," Mr Moore said. …
