Make Time for the Men in Your Life

I WAS lucky enough to have two great men in my life growing up. My dad and grandad were quite different -- dad is a straight-shooting, funny man who is so charismatic he can leave a pub with a skinful but with more money in his pocket than when he went in there.

Grandad was quiet, reserved and happy in his own company. I followed him all over the family farm like a puppy.

Both managed to deliver a few pearls of wisdom that I have never forgotten including:

Do something once and do it properly the first time (Dad).

A lot of people who thought they were indispensable now reside in the cemetery (Grandad).

Don't ask me, I'm not the boss of money/house stuff/anything. Ask your mother (Dad).

I know Father's Day is another chance for companies to push us to buy things, but I also know all my dad really wants is more time with his kids and grandkid. …
