WINTER is coming. The days are shortening, the nights are drawing in. Still, reasons to be cheerful are hardly in short supply. A royal baby on the way, Hillary Clinton's return to the spotlight and a side of Shakespeare are just the tip of London's relief efforts to steer you through September.

Heir-raising Say what you will about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the couple have impeccable timing. Yesterday was a drizzly Monday, the first day back to work after the summer holidays for many poor saps. Enter Wills and Kate with the bright news that they're expecting baby number three. Whisper it, but hardened republicans perked up (even just because it was welcome distraction from news about North Korea and Brexit). Wags quipped that Prince William timed it so his paternity leave would coincide with the World Cup another event to look forward to.

Reservations are back Cult Sri Lankan restaurant Hoppers is expanding next Tuesday. Not only is it good news that such a hotbed of deliciousness has another outlet but, crucially, unlike the first outpost you can book. We pretended to be excited about standing in the rain for at least half an hour to pay to eat it added to the anticipation but actually it was hard work.

Now you can plan and go straight in. It just feels more grown up and civilised. There will be feasting dishes try the succulent beef rib as well as frozen slushies. Fro-yo Mango lassi and boozy Kappi Frappi Cino and sharing jungle negronis should keep the joy of summer alive. Book now.

Box clever So the weather is more temperate and you've missed your chance to get a tan but don't despair proper TV is back. Tomorrow David Mitchell and Robert Webb return with a show called, aptly, Back. Try not to call it Peep Show. They say it's a new black comedy about a family-run pub but they do revert to type Mitchell is a hapless nerd and Webb charming but deluded. Thank goodness for that.
