'Mack' Eyes a Big Prize; Local Darts Players Find Their Range

DARTS: Several Gladstone players flew the flag with aplomb at the Gladstone Districts Darts Association (GDDA) Open on the weekend.

Among those was Beau Mackenzie, who teamed up with Vic Ghilotti Snr, to win the Men's Doubles.

The local pair outclassed Ian Dowden and Jack Sinclair.

Luck deserted Mackenzie in the Mixed Doubles where he and Kylie Green were beaten in the final by Jordan Ford and Kyla Ahmen.

Mackenzie aims to build on what has been a relatively successful campaign.

"I'm hoping to make it to state level next year and for that to happen, I need to practise more," he said.

The Simon Whitlock and Kyle Anderson fan played darts as a junior in New South Wales before a hiatus.

"I then stopped to play rugby league for Lightning Ridge Redbacks before I started darts again three years ago," Mackenzie said.

He made the Zone 8 team twice which featured in

the state championships

and finished 20th two times out of 64 players who competed. …
