Three-Peat Champions Breakers Down Coutts

SOCCER: With a roaring crowd of supporters behind them at Barry Watts Oval, Yamba Breakers lifted to another gear in the second half to hold out Coutts Crossing and claim a third consecutive North Coast Football Third Division North premiership.

The three-peat champions were unstoppable at times in their final as they racked up a four-goal haul to take the match beyond a doubt at 4-1 late in the second half.

Yamba got out of the blocks quickly with goals to Toby Ford and veteran striker Dave Groth before Coutts found a way back into the clash through the boot of Matthew Godwin.

But the striker's goal through traffic was the only bright moment for the blue and maroon army as the Breakers shored up the backline to hold Coutts out for the entire second half.

A penalty goal late in the second half to Kieran Mulvhill followed by a deft touch to beat the keeper from Brendon Wall sealed the victory for Breakers.

For Breakers coach Dan Griffin it was the culmination of another strong season on the Clarence Valley fields. …
