DRAG RACING: Savos Pandelakis has travelled 1640km from Townsville to compete in the 6 Banger Nationals this weekend.

His pit crew are wife Helen Pandelakis and his mate Shane Turley. The car is a front engine dragster which he has driven for the past eight years.

"We came second last year at Warwick Dragway in the modified group and are aiming to win it this year," he said.

His home track is 400km away in the Mackay area but the trip to Warwick will be the biggest for a drag racing meeting this year.

"I have taken a week off work to compete," he said.

Pandelakis has a best pass of 5.44 seconds for the one-eighth mile at Mackay at 123mph and he expects to do the same time at Warwick Dragway.

"The Warwick track was pretty good last year but we had some transmission problems so I didn't leave the lights as well as I would have hoped," he said.

"The car is ready to go this year."

Father and daughter Damien and Rachel Holyoak will be two of the starters in on bikes in the bracket meeting at Warwick Dragway tomorrow. …
