Paedophile Escapes Time Behind Bars

A "LONG-STANDING paedophile through the '70s and '80s" will spend no further time behind bars despite pleading guilty to four counts of indecent treatment of a boy under 14 and one count of attempted sodomy.

Yesterday in the Bundaberg District Court the 65-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences against his neighbour between January 1978 and September 1982 - when the boy was aged between seven and 10.

The 65-year-old would visit the boy in his own home while the boy's mother was working.

Crown prosecutor Christopher Cook said the man told the boy not to tell anyone or he would get in trouble.

"He didn't for a significant time. It had a profound impact on his life," Mr Cook said.

Mr Cook described the man as a long-standing paedophile in the '70s and '80s whose past had caught up with him.

The man, who was jailed for six years in 1991 after pleading guilty to 14 sexual offences against seven boys between 1973 and 1989, was yesterday sentenced to a two-and-a-half-year jail term, which was immediately suspended. …
