Gallagher Makes Cricket History; Alstonville Duo Plays Together at Finland

TWO former Alstonville Cricket Club players have been representing Finland in the past few months.

Nathan Collins has captained the team, while Peter Gallagher has emerged as a star with the bat and ball for Finland in the Nordic-Baltic Trophy, taking on teams such as Norway, Sweden and Estonia.

The pair is living and working in the region, and putting the Plateau cricket club on the map.

Gallagher rewrote the Finnish Twenty20 record books by smashing the Estonian bowling to all parts in rapid time.

He was finally out on the last ball of the 19th over having amassed 116 runs off just 68 balls, with his maiden international hundred coming off 59 balls.

That was enough for him to win the award for best batter and the most valuable player award for the tournament which was reduced from six games a side to three due to rain.

He also finished the game with three wickets and has now cemented a place in the team.

Earlier, Gallagher opened the batting with Collins in the first game of the weekend against Sweden. …
