Fishing Was Swell for Boats That Managed to Beat Weather Conditions; SEA ANGLING

Article excerpt

Byline: SAM HARRIS

WEATHER conditions once again prevented the majority of boats from getting to sea.

North Shields charter boat JFK Two did manage to get out on Monday and, in spite of a two-metre northerly swell, more than 30 fish were taken with a couple of double-figure ling among them.

The best ling weighed in at 13lb and was taken by Mark Francis. There were also cod to 7lb.

JFK TWO skipper Allan said they had a surprisingly large amount of pollock between 5lb and 6lb, with the best being 81/2lb, taken mainly on Sidewinder Shads, with the cod and ling being taken on Daylights and Hokis baited with mackerel strip.

Boats are still picking up mackerel, but kayak anglers are complaining that they can't get through them to the other species underneath. | MY GUESTS on CVFM's Gone Fishing radio programme this Saturday are Magni Blistein and Hazel Tipping.

Magni is a charter boat skipper in the Faroe Islands. Phil Williams, one of the Gone Fishing team, recently fished with Magni, especially for plaice. Among the ones which were caught, Phil had two with a combined weighed of 17lb 10oz.

Hazel is the owner of Hookers Baits, Blackpool. As far as I know she is the only female bait digger in this country, and supplies worm, crab and so on. You can contact her on 07898 793181.
