OH the weather outside is... Changeable? Is it the end of summer or are we in Autumn yet? The days vary - the sun (when it shines) is still pretty warm, but there is definitely a little hint of something altogether cooler in the air.

In the skies and pools too things are changing - the summer visitors like the terns and sand martins have headed off south, and we are welcoming those birds that will be spending the winter months with us. It won't be long before we see pink footed geese forming big noisy skeins in the sky, greylag geese grazing in the fields, wigeon on the lake edges. The reserve is full of life during the winter months.

In the hedgerows it's a time of plenty as the berries are ripening - blackberries, elderberries and hawthorn berries to name just a few. It's a great time to be out and about picking berries and enjoying crumbles and jam making. But leave some for the wildlife to enjoy too!
