ONE of Jeremy Corbyn's closest allies slapped down union boss Len McCluskey for claiming that allegations of anti-Semitic comments had been "mood music" during attempts to undermine the party leader.

Shadow attorney general Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, who carried out a review of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, said the Unite general secretary was simply "wrong".

"With the greatest respect to Len, I was the person charged with investigating this, it was not Len," she told BBC2's Newnight. "So I have seen things that clearly Len has not seen."

The peer, who was head of human rights group Liberty, added: "There are real reasons why somebody like Len might not have experienced racism and anti-Semitism."

Mr McCluskey's comments reignited the row over Labour's handling of claims of anti-Semitism, hours after conference delegates had voted to strengthen rules to make it easier to take disciplinary action. …
